Category B practical test: how should you practise bay parking?
Parking may be assessed in Italy’s category B practical test; repeat the manoeuvre with an instructor in a suitable area.
Parking is among the manoeuvres an examiner may assess during Italy’s category B practical test. To prepare, work on positioning, slow control and observation with your instructor in a suitable area. There is no universal reference point that guarantees a correct position: the car, space and approach angle all change the manoeuvre.
Observe before manoeuvring
Bay parking requires you to place the car within a marked space without obstructing other road users or touching nearby vehicles. The test instruction and layout may vary. Your instructor can teach you to judge the available space and choose a path that suits the car, rather than relying on a fixed number of steering-wheel turns.
Before starting, look for pedestrians, obstacles, traffic and the boundaries of the space. Move slowly and keep checking your surroundings as taught. If the space is too small or visibility changes, stop safely and ask how to correct your position.
Practise without creating risk
Begin in a training area with your instructor, where mistakes can be corrected safely. Visual reference points depend on vehicle size, driver position and the shape of the space; they do not always transfer from one car to another. Ask for feedback on observation and control, not only the final position.
This manoeuvre is part of the practical test. Quiz Patente Ufficiale helps you study Italian road theory through chapters and quizzes, but it cannot replace driving lessons. The examiner assesses your overall driving under the test criteria; an online explanation cannot predict a penalty or guarantee a pass.

Frequently asked questions
How many corrections are allowed while parking?
Do not rely on a universal number. The examiner assesses the manoeuvre in context; ask your instructor which safety skills to practise.
Do the same reference points work for every car?
No. Dimensions, visibility and driving position vary. Practise in the training car with your instructor.
