Can I drive in the United Kingdom with an Italian licence?

The visitor rule and Great Britain guidance
The GOV.UK guidance for visitors states that a visitor with a non-UK driving licence can drive in the UK and does not need an international driving permit. A tourist with a current Italian licence should carry the original document.
A visitor rule is different from the process for someone who becomes resident.
