For B and A1, read the eleven-month window carefully

The official MIT pages for categories B and A1 state that candidates have three practical attempts over eleven months, starting in the month after they pass the theory test and receive the learner permit. The wording matters: do not add eleven months to the application date or assume that you can test through the end of month twelve without checking your document and file.

The theory deadline is separate. For category B, MIT lists two attempts within six months of the application. If you already hold another licence category, you may be exempt from the theory test, but that does not mean the practical window is calculated in the ordinary way. Read the issue date and any notes on your permit as soon as it is issued; ask your local office if the deadline is unclear.

Do not apply one deadline to every procedure

The B and A1 time limits should not automatically be applied to a special licence, an extension or a procedure with a theory exemption. A failed test, transfer of a theory result or new application can affect the administrative position. The office handling your application can confirm how many attempts remain and the final eligible date.

Keep a simple record of the theory pass, learner-permit issue, attempts already used and deadline given by the office. Book with enough margin for a possible postponement, but remember that a booking does not by itself extend the permit. If your appointment falls after the date shown, contact the Motor Vehicle Office before attending and ask what must be done to regularise the application.
