Refuelling
How to refuel a car with methane
Use the correct connection and follow the station’s instructions when refuelling a methane-powered car. Ask for help if anything does not work.
Refuel only at a suitable station and follow the procedure shown there. Do not force connectors or safety devices.
Before connecting the nozzle
Check that the station supplies methane for your type of vehicle and identify the operator’s displayed procedure. Connections and controls may differ; do not use a connector that does not fit the vehicle, and do not force the nozzle if it will not attach freely. If the service is attended, wait for staff instead of starting it yourself.
Switch off the engine and follow the signs, barriers and safety instructions. If you are unsure how to use the pump, ask staff. Do not copy a procedure seen in another country or at another station: the local equipment and instructions apply.
Follow the station’s steps
Carry out the operations in the order shown on the equipment and stop if a step does not complete as directed. Do not improvise pressure settings, adapters or ways to release the connection. Stay where instructed while refuelling and do not walk away from the vehicle. The filling system must stop using its safety controls; do not try to add more after the automatic cut-off.
If the connection sticks, the nozzle will not release or an error message appears, alert staff. Do not use pliers, levers or tools and do not handle pressurised components. If something is wrong, let the attendant make the equipment safe and tell you what to do.
After refuelling
Release the connector only as the pump instructions explain and check that the cap is back in place. Report leaks or unusual smells, and do not set off if the operator says the vehicle needs checking. Check the receipt and displayed price, and keep them if you need to query the transaction.
Switch off the engine and follow the steps displayed at the pump in order: connectors and procedures can vary by station. Attach the connector without forcing it, start the required cycle and wait for the pump to finish before disconnecting. If you smell gas, hear unusual noises or cannot attach the connector, stop and alert staff.
Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter-based theory study, timed quizzes and error review; it does not replace the refuelling station’s instructions.
