Parking
How to use a disabled parking space correctly
Use a reserved bay with a valid permit only when the vehicle is serving its holder, and follow the signs and stated limits.
Displaying a permit does not make the space available for every journey or driver. Check these points before parking.
The permit is personal
The permit allows parking under the stated conditions when the vehicle is serving its holder. It is not transferable and must not be left in the car so others can use the bay for convenience. Display it clearly and check it is valid; the holder must be present or genuinely being served by the journey.
Read the road markings and signs: a space may be reserved for a named person or have special conditions. A general permit does not guarantee an individually allocated bay or allow you to ignore other restrictions, driveways or manoeuvring areas. Use the space only if that particular bay is covered by your permit and its stated conditions.
Choose a space and leave room
Check that the whole vehicle fits within the bay and does not encroach on the pedestrian route, ramp or side transfer area. Do not occupy two bays or park where you obstruct visibility. If the space is occupied or inaccessible, find another permitted space or ask the council for guidance.
Display the permit as required, without covering its details or expiry date. If it has expired, is damaged or cannot be read, contact the issuing authority to ask how to renew or replace it. If using a different vehicle in a limited traffic zone (ZTL), check separately whether its registration must be reported: the permit and access through traffic gates are separate procedures.
Report misuse without putting yourself at risk
If you find a bay occupied without a visible permit, do not confront the driver or block the vehicle. Contact the local police or the council’s designated channel. If the space is being misused, give the authorities its location and registration number; avoid posting identifying images on social media.
Display the original permit clearly and use the bay only when the vehicle is serving its holder. Do not occupy the space if the holder is not in the vehicle or being accompanied. Check the symbol and sign too: some spaces have additional limits shown on site.
To revise parking signs, Quiz Patente Ufficiale offers chapter-based study, timed quizzes and error review; permit administration is handled by the relevant authorities.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use a relative’s permit if they are not with me?
No. The permit is personal and its use must be connected to the holder as required by the rules.
Does the permit always reserve a specific space?
No. An individually allocated bay needs the specific signs required for it.
