Incorrect licence-points balance: how to request a check
Compare the portal balance with reports and notices, then ask the authority that recorded the deduction for clarification.
If your online balance does not match your records, compare the deduction with the violation report and notices, then contact the authority that recorded it. The Portale dell’Automobilista lets you check your balance, but correcting an entry requires verification by the competent authority; an informal request does not automatically suspend penalties or appeal deadlines.
Gather the records that explain the difference
You can check your licence-points balance through the Portale dell’Automobilista. Deductions are recorded under Article 126-bis of the Italian Road Code, and the violation notice should state the points associated with the offence. Before reporting an error, compare the balance with the report number and date, vehicle plate, identified driver and messages from the authority.
Keep a copy of the report, proof of payment or appeal documents, evidence identifying the driver and a screenshot or statement of the balance. A difference might reflect a case that is not yet final, an update not yet recorded or a deduction linked to another report. Do not conclude that the balance is wrong from one number without checking dates.
Ask the authority that submitted the points
Contact the authority named in the violation report or notice and ask which record produced the deduction and to which driver it was assigned. If a municipality, traffic police or another body sent the data, the portal may show the balance but does not replace that authority’s review. Use the official contact details shown on your documents.
If you wish to challenge the violation or a formal measure, follow the appeal deadlines and procedures stated in the document: an informal request for a check does not automatically pause them. For example, if your balance shows a loss you cannot match to a report, ask for the reference; if you recognise the report but dispute attribution, provide evidence to the competent authority.
