How to set a reminder for your Italian driving-licence expiry

You can use notifications from the Portale dell’Automobilista to receive reminders about your licence after enabling the available services on your profile. Still check the date printed on the card and arrange the medical visit in time: a reminder does not extend validity or replace the health assessment.

Enable the service and check your profile

The Portale dell’Automobilista offers multichannel notifications about licences and vehicles. To receive them, sign in to the services for registered citizens and check the options available on your profile; availability and setup may depend on the service and contact details recorded. Do not enter personal information on unofficial sites that promise automatic alerts.

After enabling notifications, check that your contact details are correct and that the portal lists the right licence. A reminder is an organisational aid: it does not replace checking the expiry date or guarantee that a renewal has been completed. If you hold several categories or a medical restriction with an earlier date, check each relevant entry.

The medical visit is still required

A licence is renewed through the assessment required for its category and the driver’s age. Arrange the visit before expiry and keep the documents issued during the process. A notification that arrives, fails to arrive or arrives late does not change the licence’s validity: use the licence and official procedure status as your references.

For example, a reminder set for a month before expiry can prompt you to book the visit, but the licence remains subject to the date printed on it. If no notification arrives, the document is not extended. Check the portal or card yourself and contact an authorised doctor about the renewal procedure.
